PageIndex is a document index for vectorless, reasoning-based retrieval. Instead of chunking text into a vector database it builds a tree index and lets a model reason over it, so retrieval is context-aware and reads the way a person skims a document. It ships a Python SDK with local and cloud modes and a file-level layer for reasoning across a whole corpus.

Answer questions over long PDFs by reasoning over a tree index instead of embedding chunks.
Index and retrieve locally on your machine with your own LLM API key.
Use the file-level layer to reason across many documents rather than one file at a time.
